GARFIELD 54, CHAMPION 14

In what is becoming a weekly occurrence, the Garfield G-Men rushed for more than 300 yards in a win.

On Friday, it was 385 yards on the ground, in only 40 attempts, to lead the team to a 54-14 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference road victory at Champion.

Eleven different ball-carriers contributed to the gaudy rushing total, with Jesse Grace leading the way with 152 yards on nine totes.

Grace scored three touchdowns in the game from distances of 66, 10 and 36.

Keegan Sell was next with eight carries for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Vinnie Grandizio had seven attempts, 62 yards and Garfield’s first two touchdowns of the night.

Jack Neikirk and Carter Bates had three carries each, totaling 38 and 23 yards, respectively.

The offensive attack allowed Garfield (5-1, 3-0) to establish a 42-7 lead at halftime.

Defensively, Garfield held the Flashes, who entered Friday’s game with a three-game winning streak, to 131 yards in the air and 97 yards rushing.

Next up for Garfield will be a home game with Campbell Memorial next Friday. The Red Devils are 1-5 on the season and lost 42-21 to Liberty on Friday.
