Tom Hannan has been announced as a member of the Great Akron Baseball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024.

Hannan has longtime connections to Portage County, coaching football at Crestwood High School from 1994 to 2010, while serving as the current football head coach at Rootstown High School.

In total, Hannan has coached football for 44 years.

Hannan’s baseball career, both playing and coaching, has an equally impressive longevity.

His career started in 1976, when he played for Brookside High School. He was a three-year varsity letterwinner and has since been inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. Hannan was a four-year starter at the University of Mount Union, being named the team captain and team MVP for the 1982 seaon.

He continued to play as an amateur in the Cuyahoga AAA League and played for 28 years. He was inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame in 1986, and he still holds many offensive records in the league.

Additionally, Hannan has been a longtime member of the Northeast Ohio Roy Hobbs League, playing in every age group, while also being a player manager.

He has coached high school baseball for 22 years, with the last 14 as a head coach, and he currently is the baseball head coach at Salem High School.

The Greater Akron Baseball’s Hall of Fame induction will take place on Aug. 23-25.
