The Ashland Golf Club in Ashland hosted the first of several 36-hole junior events hosted by the Northern Ohio PGA.

Juniors receive recognition for their place overall as well as in age divisions.

In the Girls 11-19 age division, Gracyn Vidovic of Aurora fired a 5-over-par for 36 holes to take second place overall and win the girls 16-19 age division.

James Morgan of North Benton played his way to a tie for 12th place overall in the 11-19 age division, scoring 17-over-par. The effort by the Southeast varsity golf team landed him in a tie for third place in his age division, boys 14-15.

Jacob Rainieri, of Mogadore, tied for 30th in the boys 11-19 and in a tie for eighth in the boys 14-15.

The next 36-hole event on the NOPGA Junior schedule is set for June 24-25 at Alliance Country Club.

OHIO SENIOR OPEN

Senior golfers from across the state of Ohio will gather at Firestone Country Club in Akron for the 39th Ohio Senior Open hosted by the Northern Ohio PGA.

Local golfers competing include Mitch Camp of Aurora, Kent State alumnus Rob Moss of Broadview Heights, Russell Papa of Aurora and Rob Schustrich of Windham.

Golfers compete over 36 holes at Firestone Country Club this Wednesday and Thursday.

Competitors will be seeking to break the streak of Bob Sowards of Dublin who has won the tournament every year since 2019.

USGA QUALIFYING

Golfers interested in competing on the national level must begin at the local qualifying tournaments for events like the U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Amateur and the U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Local qualifiers are included in the tournament list in this column.

Next up is the 124th U.S. Amateur Local Qualifier at Shaker Heights Country Club in Shake Heights on June 26th.
