GOLF IN THE FALL

As leagues hold their final events, golf often seems it is winding down.

But the fall and warm winter days can be the best time to play golf.

Just look at the tournaments remaining on the calendar — scrambles that offer larger cups on the green, a superintendent’s revenge where obstacles and pin placements will present a challenge, customer appreciation days with the opportunity to win a membership and a hot dog scramble.

For those of us with cart covers and cart heaters, golf rarely ends.

But for the not-so-die-hard among us, there is still plenty of golf to be played.

KRI FOUNDATION REVERSE RAFFLE

Usually, the Katie Iarussi Foundation in Rootstown has supporters looking for the next golf outing at Paradise Lake Country Club in Suffield or a Kickin’ It For Katie soccer game at Rover Stadium.

The foundation is doing a different kind of fundraiser. on Nov. 2.

The Iarussi Family is hosting a Reverse Raffle at the Kent American Legion, beginning with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

Appetizers are served at 6 p.m. and the raffle begins at 7, with all proceeds going to the KRI Foundation

This time, the foundation is seeking to provide funds to provide the Rootstown Art Department a new 3D laser printer.

Registration is $75 per person with food and beverage included.

There will be raffle baskets and 50-50.

Sponsor tables are $75.

Call 234-263-7718 to reserve a table. Payment may be made by check to KRI Foundation LLC or Venmo @krifoundation25.

LESSONS AND INDOOR GOLF

This week seems to be the perfect week to play golf with a stretch of 70-plus-degree weather that will probably have area golf courses filled.

But when it is raining or snowing, there are other options in the area, including golf domes, heated driving ranges and indoor simulators that offer the ability to practice, as well as league play.

Golf courses, including Brookledge in Cuyahoga Falls and Fairways at Twin Lakes in Kent, both have indoor simulators that will host leagues in the winter.

Big Shots golf, at the old Firestone 9 golf, is currently transitioning to a Top Golf and is closed for a month. It will reopen sometime in November as an all-year facility.

Golfers looking for a tuneup of their game may also want to call their local golf course and inquire about lessons and specials.

Happy golfing.
