The Portage County USBC is busy with several tournaments coming up after the conclusion of the Handicap Singles Tournament.

Charles Smith recently won the USBC’s Handicap Singles Tournament championship.

Charles Smith was crowned the champion of the Handicap Singles.

Next up is the Senior Memorial Tournament on April 6 at Spins Bowl in Kent and then the Portage County Masters on April 12-13 at Spins Bowl in Kent, Kent Lanes in Kent and Sky Lanes in Garrettsville.

Entries are available at all lanes.

PERFECT GAMES THIS WEEK

Lloyd Ables, bowling in the Garden Spot League, rolled the Perfect Game among the bowlers of the very solid league. Ables 300 topped Joe Swanson’s 297 and Paul Schulz’s 287.

Tough competition.

For the women, Teri Plaso rolled a 720 series with a 268 high game.

The guys also had three 700 series: Jolson French 779, Jim Pischera 40 and Patrick Adolph 731.

In the Elks and Friends League, Scott Enlow converted the 12 strikes in a row for a 300 game and a 778 series. The women were led by Laura Elwood’s 210-544.

IT REALLY HAPPENED

This columnist was running a tournament at Spins Lanes when a women and her family walked in.

The employees of Spins Bowl were busy with others so I asked if I could help.

She said, “Yes.”

Then she asked me if I could tell her what Spins Bowl was?

What?

I tried, as politely as I could, to tell her she was at Spins Bowl, it was the lanes where she currently was standing.

“So Spins Bowl isn’t a game?,” she asked.

Pondering the question it dawned on me that she thought it was a unique way to bowl.

I said, “Like someone spinning three times before they throw the ball or riding on a spinning wheel to release the ball.”

She nodded yes.

I obviously told her it was just the name of the lanes, but maybe we need to consider another new game in bowling.
