As the season heats up for Team USA bowling, local bowlers may want to enjoy cheering for the team since there are three bowlers included in the competition from the local area.
Many current bowlers who rolled for their high-school teams will remember:
Team USA includes members from across the country, with 28 members on the women’s and men’s teams representing the best of the United States bowlers.
The team has a busy schedule, traveling to Hong Kong, Korea, Nevada and Peru, among other competitions and tournaments.
Log onto bowl.com/team-USA to follow the local athletes that made their mark in Northeast Ohio and now are continuing their talents on the international stage.
The Portage County USBC Senior Memorial Tournament will take place on April 6 at Spins Bowl in Kent beginning at 10 a.m.
Entry forms are available at all lanes and on Facebook.
Always worth noting are the perfect games bowled in Portage County.
John Kertis rolled his 300 game in the Perfect Fit Trio at Spins Bowl in Kent.
Kertis was followed by Corey Schurko tossing a 284 and Jason Price a 279.
Kertis finished with a four game set of 1,057.
Everyone can benefit from the sound advice of the Boardman High School bowling coach at the recent Rootstown Rover Sectional Preview Tournament.
Every venue can have problems during a competition and when the bowling lanes had an unfortunate leak in the season, dropping rain on one of the lanes, things had to happen to accommodate the full house of teams.
Boardman, on the lane experiencing not only the perfect oil pattern but a little water, finished their first three games by moving to a lane when other teams were finished and then bowling their Baker games on the unaffected lane of the pair.
The coach told his team that overcoming adversity is part of competition and rising to the occasion is always the best route.
The team heeded the coach’s advice and ended up winning the tournament, despite having to overcome obstacles.
It is good advice for everyone, adults and youth.
Don’t complain.
Work with officials to find the best path and do your best.
The outcome might be spectacular.
Did your team bowl in a tournament, have an individual that bowled a high game and series at one of the area lanes or a junior bowler with an outstanding effort?
Please share the results so Portage Sports can spotlight their reward-worthy games and series.
