The Streetsboro girls golf program began in 2019 and it has been a steady rise in the Metro Athletic Conference ever since. The 2022 Rockets have set a new standard for the program with a 14-3 record and championship at the Metro Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.

Improving your golf game during Northeast Ohio’s gruelingly long winter months can be a challenge.

But not if you are the Streetsboro girls golf team.

Through a fundraising effort, the Rockets purchased an indoor golf simulator, then cooperated with the district to customize space for it in the school’s annex gymnasium to create a dedicated golf room.

“My girls spent countless hours hitting balls on the simulator in an effort to hone their skills and get better,” Streetsboro girls golf coach Tim Foster said.

Mission accomplished.

After a successful 2021 season, where the Rockets finished 13-8 overall and a solid third-place finish inside the Metro Athletic Conference, Streetsboro took another step forward in 2022.

The Rockets are currently 14-3 and were champions of the MAC Tournament championship last Friday with a team score of 366 at Pine Valley in Wadsworth. The title, combined with the regular-season results, ultimately will place the Rockets second overall in the MAC.

“They are all outstanding young ladies,” said Foster, who is in his fourth year leading the program. “This is a team that picks each other up. When one girl is having a bad day, there seems to always be another girl to step up and have a great day.”

Making it happen has been the group of Megan Solly, Cortney Evert, Samantha Clark, Juliana Reyes, Abbie Myers, Courtney Morgan and Claire Campbell.

The group has a bond that has turned a regular season into a special one.

The Streetsboro girls golf team won the Metro Athletic Conference Tournament championship on Friday at Pine Hills in Wadsworth.

“They are always there for each other. They pick each other up after a less than successful round and cheer each other’s successes. To me, that is what makes this a special program to coach,” Foster said.

“They are also the type of kids that will show up to off-season range and course practices in an effort to make themselves better. They are truly driven to succeed,” Foster added.

The team’s motivated approach, combined with Foster’s direction and lofty goals, have pushed the Streetsboro to its highest mark in program history.

Next up are regular-season matches with CVCA, Brecksville and Solon before the Rockets open postseason play with the Division II sectional at Fox Den.

“I am very proud of them,” Foster said.
