The Streetsboro Rockets scored in the game’s closing minute to pull out a 38-34 Metro Athletic Conference road victory at Field on Friday night.
The last-minute touchdown erased a spirited comeback by the Falcons, who trailed by as many as 17 and 10 in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons rallied, however, and scored on a 1-yard run by Braxton Baumberger, a 17-yard pass from Baumberger to Tanner Roe and an 8-yard scamper by Baumberger to turn a 31-14 deficit into a 34-31 lead with less than two minutes to play.
The Rockets, though, were able to score the go-ahead and game-winning touchdown on a 53-yard pass from Colby Benjamin to Cohen Klimak.
For Field, it was another heartbreaking defeat, with three of its four losses by less than one touchdown. The Falcons are now 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the MAC.
Streetsboro, meanwhile, rebounded from last week’s 42-27 loss to Cloverleaf to improve to 4-3 overall and also 2-2 in the MAC.
The Rockets surged to a 14-0 lead on a 17-yard run by Benjamin and a 51-yard run by Preston Hopperton.
Field got on the board with a 1-yard plunge by Baumberger to make it 14-7.
Streetsboro extended its lead to 17-7 right before halftime on a 28-yard field by Dom Incorvati.
The Rockets pushed out to a 24-7 advantage on a 25-yard run by Benjamin, which was followed by Field’s next score, which came on a 67-yard run by Drexal McAmis.
Leading 24-14, Streetsboro built it back up to 31-14 on a 20-yard run by Donovan Paes.
Prior to the start of the game, both teams lined up near midfield for a 47-second memorial of Donald Robinson III, who died tragically in a car accident last Friday. Robinson III, a sixth-grader, was a member of the Field Youth Football varsity team and wore jersey No. 47.
Both teams lined up at the 47-yard line for the memorial.
