Southeast High School graduate Jenna Fesemyer will compete in her second Paralympic Games beginning on Saturday.

Fesemyer, who graduated in the Class of 2015, arrived in Paris earlier this week to begin preparation for her wheelchair racing events.

From Paris Township to Paris, France, Fesemyer stands with a shirt made by a family friend to show the “Paris” connection for the Paralympian.

She will compete in three different events, with two of those including a preliminary round to advance to the finals.

Her schedule of events are as follows:

Here is Fesemyer’s competition schedule (all times are EDT):

     • Friday, Aug. 30 — 5,000 meter T54 prelim, 5:45 a.m.

     • Saturday, Aug. 31 — 5,000 meter T54 final, 4:36 a.m.

     • Monday, Sept. 2 — 1,500 meter T54 prelim, 7:05 a.m.

     • Tuesday, Sept. 3 — 1,500 meter T54 final, 6:20 a.m.

     • Sunday, Sept. 8 — Marathon, 2:15 a.m.

All events will be streamed live on Peacock TV.

Fesemyer, who is now a two-time Paralympian after also competing in Tokyo in 2020, has been joined in Paris with her partner, as well as her parents David and Cindy Fesemyer.

Fesemyer is competing in the same three events that she also competed in while in Tokyo.

She finished seventh in the 5,000 meters, 11th in the marathon and 12th in the 1,500 meters.

“Racing the 1,500 at the Paralympic trials and crossing that finish line, that was the moment where I knew I could have sealed the deal and be able to punch my ticket for Tokyo. That feeling is something I hope I remember forever,” said Fesemyer.

On Thursday morning, Fesemyer spent time inside the Roland-Garros Stadium for a set of practice rounds and training sessions.

Fesemyer is a 12-time OHSAA state champion and was named the 2014 National Girls Field Athlete of the Year by U.S. Paralympics. She graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign with her education focus on exercise science, kinesiology, median and communications, while also racing for the Illini track team.

Fesemyer grew up in Paris Township, part of the Southeast school district, where she began her wheelchair racing journey in 2013, when she was a sophomore, when the OHSAA added wheelchair events to the state track meet.

“I fell in love with wheelchair racing right away after that,” she said.
