Turnovers and penalties doomed the Ravenna Ravens in Friday’s Metro Athletic Conference matchup at Coventry.

In what turned into a 38-16 loss, the Ravens turned the ball over four times and had 19 penalties for 125 yards.

Coventry had a pair of interceptions and also recovered two of the Ravens’ three fumbles on the night.

In a clean first quarter, the Ravens jumped out to a 9-0 lead on a safety and a touchdown pass from M’Kell Williams to Maykai O’Neal that went for 14 yards.

The Comets, however, took control of the game in the second quarter behind the strength of 23 points points that allowed them to take a 23-9 lead into halftime.

Coventry scored another touchdown in the third quarter to run its total of unanswered points to 31.

For the game, Coventry had a balanced offensive attack that featured 278 yards on the ground and 165 yards in the air for a total of 443 yards.

Ravenna moved the ball, accumulating 324 yards of offense, but the turnovers and penalties were too much to overcome.

Pavel Henderson led all rushers in the game with 101 yards on 12 carries. He also split time at quarterback, where he completed nine of his 14 passes for 60 years. He also had three receptions for 46 yards.

M’Kell Williams was the Ravens’ leading receiver with 70 yards.
