THE HISTORY
The 1996 Mogadore Wildcats are remembered as one of the most iconic football teams in Portage County history. The group pulled off an unimaginable comeback to win the Division VI state championship (trailing 35-3 at one point against St. Henry) to cap a storybook season that was spotlighted by one of Ohio’s greatest individual single seasons turned in by Chuck Moore. The senior, who played in the state final with a torn ACL, finished the year with 2,283 yards rushing and 51 touchdowns — despite sitting out significant minutes throughout the regular saeason because of lopsided victories. Moore’s 51 touchdowns still rank as the sixth-most in a single season in Ohio high school football history.
