The 2008 Rootstown High School girls basketball team advanced to the Division III regional finals.

Rootstown seniors Ashley Christani, Monica Mims, Ashley Trocchio and Kaileen Vair.

The team posted a 16-7 overall record and were 8-4 in the Portage Trail Conference County Division.

Coached by Tom Deighan, along with assistants Brittany Kidd and Brian Buso, the Rovers opened the tournament with a sectional final victory over Girard (81-15). At the district level, the Rovers advanced with a 45-43 win against Crestview and won the program’s first-ever district championship by knocking off South Range 42-30.

Rootstown earned a 49-43 triumph over Brookfield in the regional semifinal before being eliminated in the regional final by Regina (91-55).

The team included Paige Berger, Aileen Vair, Ashley Christani, Lauren Shaw, Kirsten Stoner, Monica Mims, Kelcie Goodpaster, Lauren Hughes, Julia Colecchi, Alyssa Trocchio and Haley Christani.
