A collection of Portage Quizbowl League teams have received a prestigious invitation by the NAQT (National Academic Quiz Tournament) to compete in national tournaments.
The invitation was the result of team results throughout the regular season — and further invitations may be extended following the Portage Quizbowl League tournament, which is scheduled for Friday at the Garrettsville YMCA.
For now, the teams that have been invited to the High School National Championship Tournament in Atlanta, Ga., on May 24-26, include Aurora, Cloverleaf, Hudson, Rootstown and Southeast.
Additionally, Bio-Med Science Academy, Cloverleaf, Lake Center Christian, Rootstown and Southeast were invited to the Small School National Championship Tournament, hosted in Rosemont, Ill., on April 26-28. Cloverleaf, Rootstown and Southeast will compete at the event in with a Traditional Public Schools classification, while Bio-Med and Lake Center Christian will be placed in the open-classification category.
The NAQT is the primary organizer for middle school, high school, community college and college national quiz bowl championships. It was founded by former players in 1996.
