Kent Roosevelt hosts one of the largest girls tournaments to start the season each August, welcoming girls teams in two flights, morning and afternoon.

On Saturday, the weather had another idea as rain shortened the morning flight to nine holes and the afternoon-flight teams will return on Friday to the Fairways at Twin Lakes to compete in the second flight.

Before the rains soaked the fairways, the Southeast Pirates pulled ahead in the morning flight, scoring a 161 team score, five strokes ahead of Green (166) and besting the Kent B team in third (172).

The Pirates were led by 2023 state qualifier Taylor Blazek, a senior this season, carding a 2-over-par 36 to earn runner-up medalist honors behind Solon’s Serena Wu.

Wu, a repeat medalist in the event, carded a 35.

The rest of the Pirates gave the team the boost needed to earn the championship: Samantha Morgan 39, Aubree Varga 51, Jessi Mix 45 and Jenni Mix 45.

The Kent B team finished in third place (172) behind Green (166).

Kent’s best was fired by Ella Houk (41), with the rest of the team scoring: Brooke Beatty 44, Kaila Koalyn 53, Elizabeth Adkins 43, Makenna Ward 49.

On Friday, the afternoon flight teams will return in the morning to compete including: Kent Roosevelt A, Jackson, Hoover, Hathaway Brown, Stow, Norrdonia, Revere, Walsh and Aurora.
