The high-school golf season in Ohio concluded with the OHSAA state tournaments, but for Gracyn Vidovic and Brooklyn Millard, both of Aurora, one more tournament is on their schedule.
The inaugural Junior Ohio Cup tees off Saturday and continues Sunday.
The event welcomes 32 juniors, 16 from the Northern Ohio PGA Section and 16 from the Southern Ohio PGA Section to Westfield Country Club in Westfield for a two-day, Ryder-Cup style tournament.
Spots into the tournament had been previously earned.
Vidovic, after a solid state tournament, is a junior, who was named Player of the Year in the Northern Ohio Section, solidifying her spot on the 16-member team. Vidovic won NOPGA junior tour events at Ellsworth Meadows, Wooster Country Club, Shawnee Hills and Gleneagles.
Brooklyn Millard, a senior, won the Junior PGA Northern Ohio Section Championship at Oberlin Golf Club, giving her an automatic bid to the Junior Ohio Cup.
Millard and Vidovic will join juniors from the SOPGA and NOPGA to compete in Four Ball, Best Ball and Singles matches.
“Today marks an historic milestone for junior golf in Ohio as we proudly announce the first-ever Junior Ohio Cup matches,” said David Griffith, executive director of the Northern Ohio PGA and a Kent State alumnus and former Golden Flashes varsity golfer.
“The event will showcase the exceptional talents and sportsmanship of our young golfers in Ohio,” continued Griffith. “I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this terrific event.”
