Hiram College announced on Saturday that it will introduce three new sports beginning in 2025.
The three sports are men’s ice hockey, women’s lacrosse and women’s bowling.
“This is a historic period for Hiram athletics and its new total of 26 varsity sports,” Director of Athletics Scott Pohlman said in a release. “Our academic and athletic administration have been working hard to make Hiram the ideal destination for the Division III student-athlete.”
Coaches have been announced for two of the sports already, with Brooke Davidson selected to lead women’s bowling, while Jeffrey Curto, who is the assistant professor of sport management at Hiram, will coach men’s ice hockey.
The college announced that it has begun its search for the women’s lacrosse coach.
“I am very pleased that we are adding these three sports to Hiram’s lineup, as they represent important additional opportunities for our student-athletes,” Hiram President Robert Bohrer II said in the release.
Hiram has previously sponsored a women’s lacrosse team, participating in the North Coast Athletic Conference from 2013-2020.
“We felt it was a perfect time to bring women’s lacrosse back to Hiram College,” Pohlman said. “The emergence of the sport and our return to the PAC (Principal Athletics Conference) made it an exciting decision to move forward with the program.”
For the ice hockey team, the Terriers’ home rink will be The Pond, which is located in Chagrin Falls.
