Kent Roosevelt had four double-winners in defeating Lakewood 59-28 and host Bay Village 53-40 in a tri-meet Jan. 23.

The two-time winners were juniors Ethan Kurtz in the 175- pound weight class and Gavin Edwards at 157 plus freshman Jacob Dunfee at 113 and sophomore Carter Fertig at 120.

“I was really happy with the way Ethan wrestled,” head coach Chris Dunfee said. “I’ve been trying to get him to come out of his shell. We see a lot of really good things out of him in the practice room, but we hadn’t seen that translate to the matches until this meet. I was really excited to see his performance. Gavin had been sick all week, so we didn’t know what we were going to get out of him. He wrestled sick and didn’t have much stamina, but the kid has a lot of heart. He battled through against a good kid from Bay Village and dominated him. He wrestled really well and was able to pull away and ended up getting a pin late in the match.

“Jacob wrestled really well, dominated both of his matches. He wrestled really well on his feet, which has not been his strong suit through the course of the season. That’s something he’s been putting a lot of work into. It was good to see that pay off for him. Carter had a tough weekend at the Top Gun the week before. To see him come back and rebound and get back into the way that he does things … it was good to see him regroup and get back in the saddle. I was really happy with his performance.”

Senior heavyweight Noah Dunlap pinned his Bay Village opponent and won by forfeit against Lakewood.

“Noah wrestled really well,” said Dunfee. “He got into his offense quickly and was able to put the kid away pretty quickly.”

Roosevelt will wrestle aginst arch-rival Ravenna on Saturday.
