The track and field preview for the Waterloo Vikings’ 2023 season:

 

THE TEAM

Head Coach: Jeff Sharkey, 1st year at Waterloo (10th overall).

Coaching Staff: Mike Devies.

2022 Record: Boys—8th place at Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Championships; girls—6th at MVAC Championships.

State Qualifiers: None.

Returning Letterwinners (9): Nate Roberts, Jeremiah Willis, Cheyanne Biltz, Andrea Garrett, Ally Miller, Lexi Miller, Tess Rodenbucher, Chloe Williamson, Quinn Nestich.

Underclassmen to Watch: Dominic Harouff, Zack Knapp, Bobby Gambeda, James Blackbur, Lena Ross, Ava Reynoldsburg.

 

SEASON OUTLOOK

“Our goal is to try to improve each week,” first-year head coach Jeff Sharkey said.

 

SPRINTERS

The Vikings’ boys will feature Bobby Harouff, Kai Warren and Chance Moore, while the girls’ sprint team will include Arianna Rebbecci, Reece Hoover, Tess Rodenbucher, Chloe Williamson and Quinn Nestich.

 

DISTANCE RUNNERS

Jeremiah Willis spotlights the group for the boys, with Cheyanne Biltz and Ally Miller highlighting the girls group.

 

FIELD EVENTS

Andrea Garrett and Isabella Jenior are expected to be the top performers for the girls, with Nate Roberts leading the boys.

 

REASON TO BE OPTIMISTIC

“Our increased numbers,” Sharkey said.

 

CAUSE FOR CONCERN

“We still do not have enough to field all the events,” Sharkey said.

April 25: at Jackson-Milton

May 11: Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Championships at Champion
