The Ohio High School Athletic Association allowed an earlier start to the golf season this year and many teams are taking advantage.

GIRLS GOLF

SOUTHEAST 170, LABRAE 225

(At Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course, Lake Milton)

The Southeast Pirates have moved to the Mahoning Valley Athletic League and took on their first opponent, LaBrae, at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course in Lake Milton.

Easily earning the victory, the Pirates were led by senior Taylor Blazek and freshman Sammy Morgan, each firing 3-over-par 39s.

For Blazek, it was golf as usual as she continues her solid play that ended the season at the state tournament in 2023.

For Morgan, that 39 set the freshman course record for the women from Southeast.

SOUTHEAST (170): Taylor Blazek 39, Sammy Morgan 39, Aubree Varga 46, Jessi Mix 46, Adrianna Sloan 48, Jenni Mix 51.

LABRAE (225): Madie Tovart 48, Lily Briggs 64, Mia Sloan 54, Hannah Bailey 59.

RECORDS: Southeast 1-0, LaBrae 0-1.

BOYS GOLF

MOGADORE 179, STREETSBORO 185

(At Boulder Creek Golf Club, Streetsboro – Par 36)

The Mogadore Wildcats handed Streetsboro its first loss of the season at the Rockets’ home course, earning the victory 179 to 186.

The Wildcats’ Tyler Pendergast earned medalist honors, firing a 39, with Jude Thiry adding a 40 to the visiting team’s total.

The Rockets were led by Brett Epple’s 41.

Mogadore competes in the Portage Trail Conference and Streetsboro in the Metro Athetlic Conference as Chris Mossa’s Wildcats team took home the non-league victory.

MOGADORE (179): Tyler Pendergast 39, Brock Thiry 48, Jude Thiry 40, Jackson Lanham 56, Max Shannon 52, Blake Waterhouse 52.

STREETSBORO (185): Brett Epple 41, Dom Martini 51, Zach Schramm 54, Bryce Pocek 48, Jayden Vyse 46, Andrew Burton 50.

RECORDS: Mogadore 1-0, Streetsboro 0-1.

 

ROOTSTOWN 179, FIELD 187

(At Sunny Hill Golf Course, Brimfield – Par 36)

The Rootstown Rovers earned their first victory of the season, topping the Field Falcons in a cross-conference match.

The Rovers were led by Luke Flowers (30) and Trentan Sines (43) in the nine-hole victory.

Field’s best was carded by Joey Conroy (42)

ROOTSTOWN (179): Trentan Sines 43, Luke Flowers 39, Logan Uphold 49, Ryan Wolf 51, Aidan Dixon 51, Anthony Cambareri 48.

FIELD (187): Jayden Huskins 46, Joey Conroy 42, Nick Cultrona 46, Aiden Graham 53, Aiden Baker 60.

RECORDS: Rootstown 1-0, Field 0-1.
