BOYS SOCCER

RAVENNA 3, CRESTWOOD 0

The Ravens posted their eighth shutout of the season on Thursday with a 3-0 triumph on the road at Crestwood.

Nick Iurato scored a pair of goals, while Mikey Myers added Ravenna’s third goal.

Diego Jasso was in goal for the shutout.

 

FIELD 5, MASSILLON 0

Kyle Schoenbeck had two goals and two assists to help lift the Falcons to a shutout victory on Senior Night.

Schoenbeck assisted Field’s first two goals of the game scored by Alex Grimm and Mitch Adams to give the team a 2-0 halftime lead.

Schoenbeck scored the first goal of the second half to push the advantage to 3-0. Liam Waffen scored to get the lead to 4-0 before Schoenbeck scored the game’s final goal.

Schoenbeck’s second goal came on a throw-in to Garit Greene, who flicked the ball back to Schoenbeck, who headed it into the back of the net.

It was Greene’s second assist of the game, with his first coming on Schoenbeck’s first goal.

Adams also added an assist on Waffen’s goal.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

WATERLOO 4, GARFIELD 1

Rose Couts had a hat trick in the Vikings’ Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference cross-division matchup with Garfield in Garrettsville.

Waterloo jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime on Couts’ first two goals of the game. She added her third goal in the second half, along with a goal from Olivia Boyle.

The win keeps Waterloo unbeaten at 11-0-1 overall and 9-0-1 in league play.

 

VOLLEYBALL

GARFIELD DEF. NEWTON FALLS,

25-18, 25-12, 25-16

The G-Men cruised to a three-game victory on Thursday at Newton Falls.

Madeline Shirkey highlighted the victory with 36 assists, with Gabby Barnard totaling 17 kills and Montana McGranahan with 15 kills.

Kyla Grace added 10 digs and Mandy Cardinal had a team-high five blocks for the G-Men.

 

ROOTSTOWN DEF. ST. THOMAS AQUINAS,

25-16, 25-10, 25-18

Allison Strickland’s overall performance helped guide the Rovers to a sweep over St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday, improving Rootstown to 6-2 in the Portage Trail Conference.

Strickland totaled nine points, eight aces, seven assists and seven kills.

Lindsay Smith was the top scorer for Rootstown with 12 points, and she also added six kills and seven digs.

Taylor Banks added 11 points and nine assists for the Rovers.

 

CRESTWOOD DEF. CARDINAL,

24-26, 25-11, 25-14, 25-12

The Red Devils rebounded from a loss in the first game to win the next three to top Cardinal.

Abby Guyette had a team-high 21 assists to go along with her 11 points and 11 digs.

Hannah Ward was the top point-scorer for Crestwood with 13.

The play at the net was dominated by Aimee Barnauskas, who totaled 24 kills.

Crestwood improved to 8-9 overall and 5-3 in the Chagrin Valley Conference.

 

WINDHAM DEF. PYMATUNING VALLEY,

25-22, 16-25, 25-23, 25-23

The Bombers broke free from a 1-1 tie by winning the second and third games by narrow two-point margins.

KaNeese Cunningham had 13 kills, while Quinn Justham had 21 assists and 21 digs; and Julia Jones had 15 points and three aces for Windham.

 

GOLF

Ravenna senior Abbie Retherford advanced to the Division II district tournament after shooting an 80 at the Punderson sectional on Wednesday.

The top-four girls golfers that did not advance on a team, qualified to move to the district as an individual.

Retherford finished as the No. 2 individual within that group.

On Thursday, Ravenna boys golfer Landon Skilton advanced to the Division II Windmill district after shooting an 81 at Bunker Hill for the sectional tournament.
