GARDNER, GIEBEL, DERR FIRE PERSONAL BESTS
The girls teams from both Rootstown and Field competed at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield, the course both teams call home, as the Rovers earned the win, 192 to 219, on Wednesday.
During the match, Chloe Gardner (45), Morgan Giebel (50) and Ella Derr (51) each shot their personal-best scores.
Gardner earned medalist honors, with Ava Miller adding a 48 and Alex Biggin a 49 for the Rovers to earn the victory and improve the Rovers’ record to 3-2.
The Flacons were led by Mackenzie Boley (47) as Field begins their match play with the loss to the Rovers.
PIRATES TOP GARFIELD IN MVAC MATCHUP
Southeast (165) had no trouble defeating Garfield (246) in the MVAC Gray Conference matchup at Olde Dutch Mill in Lake Milton.
The Pirates offered solid scoring, with Taylor Blazek leading the way, carding a 1-over-par 36. Sammy Morgan added a 41, Aubree Varga a 42 and Adrianna Sloan 44.
Garfield’s Addison Snyder was the best on the fairways for the G-Men, carding a 53 and Brooke Hrabak added a 62 for the visitors.
Southeast remains undefeated overall (5-0) and in conference play (2-0). Garfield drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
ONLY TWO STROKES DECIDED THE MATCH
It was a hard-fought match between Metro Athletic Conference competitors Springfield and Streetsboro.
The Spartans came out on top at Streetsboro’s home course, Boulder Creek, firing a team total of 220 to the Rockets’ 222.
The Spartans’ Brooke Porter earned medalist honors in the match, scoring a 52, just one stroke lower than teammate Maggie Putt.
The Rockets had three golfers sharing low score. Emma Chamberlain, Hazel Schoenherr and Sarah Czirok each fired 55 at their home course.
Streetsboro evened their record to 2-2 as Springfield improved to 2-3.
WOLF AND CAMBARERI LEAD ROVERS TO VICTORY
Both Ryan Wolf and Anthony Cambareri fired 43s to lead Rootstown over Cuyahoga Falls at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield on Wednesday.
The Rovers’ Trentan Sines (45) and Luke Flowers (44) added the scores for the win.
The Rovers improved their record to 6-1 with the victory.
Cuyahoga Falls’ Liam Watson carded a 47 as the Tigers lost their first match.
WATERLOO SPLITS A TRI-MATCH
The Waterloo Vikings traveled to Bedford Trails for an MVAC match.
The Vikes, led by Trevor Simons (39), topped Springfield (189) by eight strokes, but lost to Lowellville (178) by only three.
For the Vikings, Clayon Smith and Mitchell Shepherd each fired 45 on the Par-35 fairways of Lowellville’s home course.
Lowellville’s best was shot by Zoe Sergent (41) and Springfield’s Jackson Ensley carded a 3-over-par 38.
Waterloo is now 2-2 in both league and overall. Lowellville is undefeated at 6-0 and Springfield dropped to 1-4.
