FORMER PTC RIVALS COMPETE IN CLOSE MATCH

Mogadore and Southeast were once Portage Trail Conference rivals and always enjoyed the close competition as league rivals.

Now, in two different conferences, it didn’t make the competition any less important to the Wildcats and the Pirates as Mogadore earned the two-stroke victory on their home course, 169-171.

Playing the Par-34 front nine of Paradise Lake Country Club in Suffield, the Pirates’ James Morgan looked like he was the golfer playing at home as he continued his assault on golf courses in Northeast Ohio, often firing under-par rounds as he did on Tuesday.

Morgan fired a 34, 2-under-par, to lead the Pirates but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Wildcats balanced attack.

Led by Tyler Pendergast (37), Mogadore was too deep for the Pirates, with Jude Thiry adding a 41, Max Shannon a 44 and Brock Thiry a 45. Five of the Wildcats fired in the 40s for nine holes.

Morgan was helped in the Pirates effort to defeat the Wildcats by Alex Peelish (44) and Cole Bruno (45).

Mogadore is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the PTC. Southeast is 2-1 overall and remains undefeated in the MVAC.

ROOTSTOWN DEFEATS ST. THOMAS IN PTC MATCH

The Rootstown Rovers traveled to Pleasant View Golf Course in Louisville to compete against fellow Portage Trail Conference member St. Thomas.

The Rovers fired a 166 led by Luke Flowers (36) and Trentan Sines (42) to defeat the Knights (194).

St. Thomas’ best score was carded by Aiden Paul (46).

The Rovers remain undefeated in five starts this season and are now 1-0 in the PTC.

St. Thomas is 0-3 in the conference and overall .

WATERLOO TAKES HOME A WIN IN THE MVAC

Waterloo’s Clayton Smith

The Waterloo Vikings earned their first victory in the MVAC Scarlet Division, topping Sebring 183 to 228.

The Vikes’ Trevor Simons and Clayton Smith each finished with 41s on their scorecard to give Waterloo the victory on its home course, Paradise Lake Country Club in Suffield.

Mike Moyer shot the low score for Sebring, a 47.

Waterloo now moves to 1-1 overall and in conference play. Sebring drops to 3-2 both overall and in the conference.
