WILDCATS EARN FIRST WIN

TAYLOR PENDERGAST

Tyler Pendergast fired a 37 on the Par 34 fairways at Paradise Lake to help the Wildcats easily win over St. Thomas in a Portage Trail Conference matchup on Thursday.

Jude Thiry added a 41 to the Wildcats’ total. All four of Mogadore’s scores that counted, including Max Shannon (42) and Brock Thiry (43), bested the low score for St. Thomas (Aiden Paul 45).

 

PIRATES WIN FIRST MVAC MATCHUP

Junior James Morgan fired an even-par 36 at Riverview Golf Course in Newton Falls to lead the Pirates to their first victory in their new conference, the MVAC.

Southeast shot a team-total 165 to Newton Falls 211 to earn the victory.

Pirates counting their scores in the match included Alex Peelish (42), Cole Bruno (43) and Ethan Shodd (44).

Cameron Huff led Newton Falls (41).

 

G-MEN TOP LEAGUE OPPONENT LABRAE

The Garfield G-Men bested LaBrae at Sugar Bush Golf Club by nine strokes in a MVAC league match.

Garfield was led by Hunter Anderson, firing an even-par for the G-Men, with Caleb Sheer adding a 43 to the team total.

LaBrae’s best was carded by Austin Rose (39).

 

YANK HEISLER INVITATIONAL

The annual Yank Heisler Invitational hosted by Ravenna at Windmill Lakes Golf Club was another success with more than 25 teams competing.

Champion was Brecksville (305), edging out Poland (308) by three strokes.

Marco Silva of Barberton earned medalist honors, carding a 71 on the Par 70 fairways of Windmill Lakes.

Rootstown’s Luke Flowers was the lowest of the individuals representing Portage County teams, firing an 83.

 

GIRLS GOLF

RECORDS SET IN ROVERS LOSS TO MINERVA

The Rootstown Rovers are in the beginnings of their program, sponsoring a girls golf team for only their third season.

In a loss to Minerva (179 to 187) the Rovers set a new varsity nine-hole record (187) as Ava Miller shot her personal-best nine holes, a 40.

Competing at Sunny Hill Golf Course, the Rovers scores included in the record-setting total included: Alex Biggin 48, Chloe Gardner 49, and Anna Drago 50.

Minerva’s best was fired by Peyton Beaumariage, a 36.

Rootstown improved their record to 1-2 overall.
