High School Golf Roundup and Scoreboard: Riders finish second at Suburban League tournament

BOYS GOLF

SUBURBAN GOLF LEAGUE – TOURNAMENT 1

(At Pine Hills Golf Course, Hinckley – Par 72)

The Suburban Golf League held the first of four tournaments for the boys at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley for both the American and the National Conferences.

In the American Conference, Liam Curtis of Kent Roosevelt took home medalist honors firing an outstanding 5-under-par 72.

That score helped push the Rough Riders into second place (322) behind Highland (305) and edged out the Aurora Greenmen by one stroke.

Roosevelt’s scoring continued to be solid as Deacon Smith fired an 82, freshman Jaxon Turner added an 85 and Jack Puhalla carded an 88 to round out the top five scoring.

Aurora’s 323 included Kyle Lancaster’s 77, Gannon Brady 79, Brady Allenick’s 81 and Joel Fletcher’s 86.

In the National Conference, Brecksville topped Hudson by three strokes (302-305) as Benjamin Matava of Hudson and Rob Prevette of Twinsburg shared medalist honors, each carding 73.

MEDALISTs: Liam Curtis, Kent 67; Marco Silva, Barberton 71; Zach Butcher and Luke Butcher, Highland 75.

KENT ROOSEVELT (322): Liam Curtis 67, Deacon Smith 82, Jack Puhalla 88, Jaxon Turner 85, Jack Flynn 89, Owen Puhalla 92.

AURORA (323): Kyle Lancaster 77, Gannon Brady 79, Brady Allsnick 81, Joel Fletcher 86, Jackson Sarver 88, Logan Sadd 94.

 

 

ROOTSTOWN 378, CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN 410

(At Briardale Greens, Euclid – Par 70)

The Rovers picked up their third non-league victory of the season, topping Cornerstone Christian at Briardale Greens in Euclid.

Trentan Sines led the Rovers, firing a 90 followed by Luke Flowers shooting a 91.

Sines earned medalist honors in the match.

Cornerstone Christian’s best was shot by Josh Wrobel (101).

ROOTSTOWN (378): Trentan Sines 90, Aidan Dixon 100, Luke Flowers 91, Logan Uphold 106, Ryan Wolf 100, Anthony Cambareri 97.

CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN (410): Ava Archer 103, Garrett Gardner 111, Justice Hamilton 104, Josh Wrobel 101, Nathan Ryan 102, Jake Welch 110.
