High School Golf Roundup: Rootstown places third at Lady Spartan Invitational

GIRLS GOLF

SPRINGFIELD LADY SPARTAN INVITATIONAL

(At Chenoweth Golf Club, Akron – Par 71)

The Rootstown Rovers traveled to Chenoweth Golf Club in Akron to compete in the always competitive Lady Spartan Invitational hosted by Springfield.

The Division-II Rovers took home the third-place trophy, firing a 417 team score that was only topped by Cloverleaf and Copley — both Division I schools.

The Rovers were led by Ava Miller (97) and Alex Biggin (114). The rest of the Rovers’ team included Chloe Lynn Gardner (104), Camryn Lappe (112) and Morgan Giebel (104).

TOP FIVE TEAMS: Cloverleaf 394, Copley 395, Rootstown 417, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 425, Springfield 427.

ROOTSTOWN (417): Ava Miller 97, Alex Biggin 114, Chloe Lynn Gardner 104, Camryn Lappe 112, Morgan Giebel 104.

The Southeast Pirates finished in sixth place at the Lady Explorer Invitational as senior Taylor Blazek fired a 79, good for runner-up medalist.

Southeast topped out at 375 as Canfield won the event, scoring a 353 team total.

The Pirates were pushed into sixth place of 18 teams with the solid scoring of freshman Samantha Morgan (92), junior Aubree Varga (98), junior Jessi Mix (106) and freshman Jenni Mix (118).

(At Sunny Hill Golf Course, Brimfield – Par 35)

The Rootstown Rovers split a match with Norton and Jackson-Milton at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield on Monday.

Norton’s Braden Gunter earned medalist honors, firing an even-par 35 on the way to the team’s 168.

The Rovers, topping Jackson-Milton by only one stroke, were led by Trentan Sines (41) and Anthony Cambareri (45).

Jackson-Milton’s best was fired by Hunter Schertzer (43).

The Rovers are now 2-1 to start the season.

NORTON (168): Braden Gunter 35, Noah Landers 42, Will Goff 47, Stone Hardy 50, Jack Pazdernik 44.

ROOTSTOWN (178): Trentan Sines 41, Luke Flowers 46, Logan Uphold 47, Ryan Wolf 46, Aidan Dixon 51, Anthony Cambareri 45.
