ROVERS CONTINUE TO SET NEW SEASON RECORDS

Rootstown welcomed the Springfield Spartans to Sunny Hill Golf Course on Monday, then soundly defeated them 178 to 208.

New records were set during the match, including the lowest-team score of 178, with the previous low being a 181.

On the way to the low score of the season, Alex Biggin tied her personal best (44) and Morgan Geibel fired her personal-best score (44), improving by six strokes.

The Rovers are now 8-3. The Spartans, a part of the Metro Athletic Conference, were led by Kylee MacDonald’s 47 and are now 8-7 overall.

 

 

FIFTEEN STRAIGHT FOR SOUTHEAST

Southeast’s Jenni Mix

The Southeast Pirates continued their undefeated season with a victory over Brookfield at Yankee Lake Golf Course.

Southeast topped Brookfield 186-258.

Senior Taylor Blazek and freshman Sammy Morgan tied for medalist honors, each firing a 43, with Aubree Varga adding a 49 and sisters, Jenni Mix and Jessi Mix each carding 52s. Adrianna Sloan rounded out the scoring for the Pirates with a 51.

Brookfield’s best was carded by Ava Giordano, a 58.

Southeast improved its record to 15-0 overall and 11-0 in the MVAC Gray Conference. Brookfield dropped to 1-6 and 0-6 in conference play.

 

BOYS GOLF

PIRATES TOP FORMER PTC RIVAL WATERLOO

James Morgan continued his outstanding play, firing a 2-under-par 34 on the back nine of Paradise Lake Country Club in Suffield as the Pirates topped former PTC rival, the Waterloo Vikings 184 to 189, on Monday.

Morgan was helped by Ethan Shodd (49) and Alex Peelish (50) in the winning effort.

Waterloo’s Trevor Simons carded a 40, with Clayton Smith the runner-up for Waterloo (45) as the Vikes dropped to 5-8 overall and Southeast improved to 11-3.

 

MOGADORE GRABS VICTORY OVER ROOTSTOWN IN PTC MATCHUP

Mogadore and Rootstown are consistent rivals in the Portage Trail Conference, but the Wildcats made a decisive statement with a 23-stroke victory over the Rovers at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield.

Mogadore’s Tyler Pendergast (38) and Max Shannon (40) led the Wildcats, as the Thiry brothers (Jude and Brock) tied with 41 strokes each.

Those consistent scores led to an solid lead for the Wildcats going into the conference tournament on Sept. 18 at Sable Creek Golf Club in Hartville.

Rootstown’s Nathan Waesch, a freshman, led the Rovers firing a 44, with Luke Flowers and Aidan Dixon each adding 45.

The Wildcats improved to 5-1 in the PTC and 11 and 2 overall. Rootstown is 10-6 overall and 2-4 in the PTC.
