High School Golf Roundup: Southeast runs undefeated streak to 12 games

SOUTHEAST REMAINS UNBEATEN

Southeast girls improved their record to 12-0 overall and 8-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division with a victory over Champion at Olde Dutch Mill in Lake Milton on Wednesday.

Taylor Blazek continued her dominating run in matches, firing a 39 to earn medalist honors.

The Pirates’ Sammy Morgan continued to help Blazek and create a one-two punch for Southeast, carding a 42, with Jessi Mix also adding a 42.

Amber Varga shot a 44 for Southeast, as all four golfers from the Pirates had lower scores than the entire Champion lineup.

The visitors were led by Beilea Woods, carding a 48.

The Pirates take on Kent Roosevelt at Olde Dutch Mill on Thursday in a non-league matchup between two of the best teams in Portage County.

ROVERS LOSE NON-CONFERENCE MATCH

ROOTSTOWN’S ANNA DRAGO

The Rovers lost to Copley at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield 175-187 in a match that had several local connections.

Rootstown’s best on the fairways was fired by Anna Drago, a 42 on her home course. The score was Drago’s personal best by three strokes. Chloe Gardner added a 47.

Hannah Roush fired a 37, and Madison Maxwell a 42, to help Copley earn the victory.

\Copley is coached by Bob Harris, former Field High School girls golf coach.

Runner-up medalist, Madison Maxwell, is the daughter of Trent Maxwell, former golf professional at Windmill Lakes and currently at Windmill Lakes Golf Center.

BOYS GOLF

WILDCATS BEAT PTC RIVAL ST. THOMAS

Mogadore’s Tyler Pendergast (38) and Jude Thiry (39) led Mogadore on a 20-stroke rout over Portage Trail Conference rival St. Thomas at Pleasant View Golf Course in Parison on Wednesday.

Mogadore fired a total of 166, including the scores of Brock Thiry (44) and Noah Hopkins (45).

St. Thomas’ best was fired by Aiden Paul (42).

Mogadore is now 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the PTC. St. Thomas is 1-6 and 0-3.

ROVERS PICK UP VICTORY NO. 10

Rootstown traveled to Cuyahoga Falls home course, Brookledge, and beat the Tigers 178 to 194.

The Rovers’ Luke Flowers fired a 41 to earn match medalist, with Trentan Sines adding a 44, Ryan Wolf a 46 and Anthony Cambareri a 47.

Cuyahoga Falls Ben LeFleur carded a 46 to lead the home team.

The Rovers improved their overall record to 10-4.
