High school girls tennis previews for the 2024 season. Teams not included did not submit team information by the publication deadline and will be spotlighted at a future date.

 

AURORA

Head Coach: Vincent Cannata, 2nd year, 15-7 career record.

Last Year: 15-7

Returning Letterwinners (6): Kamy Milano, jr.; Zelie Cerda, sr.; Addison Martin, jr.; Sophie Cifani, jr.; Ashley Kohl, jr.; Eliza Cunningham, soph.

Promising Newcomers: Logan Archibald, fresh.

Season Outlook: “I expect to be competitive in the Suburban League,” said Cannata.

 

FIELD

Head Coach: Julia Peterson, 1st year.

Returning Letterwinners (6): Autumn Atha, McCayla Meffert, Ali Kulic, Adriana Cunningham, Xochitl Castellon, Natalie Formica.

Promising Newcomers: Kaylee Kren, jr.; Kourtney Austin, jr.

After the Match: “Our girls have been playing some competitive tennis this season, while most of them are also in band, drama or work while on the team,” said Peterson. “We also have a volunteer coach, Elizabeth Soenlen, and this is her first year working with high-school tennis as well. We have both been playing for over a decade and bring a fresh perspective to the game.”

 

RAVENNA

Head Coach: Brittney Kohanski, 11th year.

Last Year: 9-11 overall, MAC 5-5, 4th place.

Returning Letterwinners (3): Whitney Holmes, sr.; Mallory Sterba, jr.; Jaylynn Walker, jr.

Promising Newcomers: Emily Scibelli, jr.; Izzy Short, jr.; Alannah Raffa, jr.; Janayah Maddox, jr.

Season Outlook: “Although we have upperclassmen, most are new to tennis,” said Kohanski. “I am hopeful that Whitney and Mallory are able to have winning seasons and place in the to three in first and second singles. They have been working really hard and strengthening their singles game. I look to be competitive in most league matches. Our newer players are making progress, and I want them to keep learning more about tennis and how to play the game.”

After the Match: Ryan O’Donnell is the assistant coach.

 

SOUTHEAST

Head Coach: Linda Smith, 2nd year.

Returning Letterwinners (5): Holley Reynolds, jr.; Makayla Flores, jr.; Natalie Kemble, soph.; Caroline Serry, soph.; Miranda Timko, soph.

Promising Newcomers: Madison Nutter, soph.; Isla Zina, soph.; Jocelyn Nowak, fresh.; Emma Wood, jr.

Season Outlook: “We want to improve each week and want to grow as a team and win a few matches,” said Smith.

After the Match: Leonard Gruver is in his second season as an assistant coach. Miranda Timko is the starting pitcher for Southeast’s softball team.
