Kent Roosevelt’s Ella Houk made school history on Wednesday, becoming the first aquatic athlete in 30 years to finish in the top eight at the OHSAA’s state championships.
Houk accomplished the feat with her seventh-place finish in the Division I 1-meter diving competition hosted by C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
It is Houk’s second straight trip to the state finals, and she improved upon her 15th-place finish a year ago.
Also competing on Wednesday was Aurora’s Aubrey Kennedy. She finished 19th in the 1-meter diving.
Portage Sports will have additional coverage from the swimming state championships on Thursday.
