For the second straight season, the Rootstown girls bowling advanced to the Division II state championship and on Friday, the Rovers placed seventh in Ohio at the event.

Rootstown lost to Bryan High School in the Baker Round, 3-1.

Rootstown senior Emma Day was named All-Ohio Honorable Mention on Friday.

“Overall, it was a successful season,” said Rootstown coach Andy Day, “and we thank everyone that followed the team throughout the year.”

Emma Day led the team with a 602 series and earned an All-Ohio Honorable Mention.

“If it wasn’t for a couple miscues, she would have been First Team All-State instead of Honorable Mention,” said Day. “’But this is another first for the program, making all-state, which is good.

“Overall it was a good day,” Day added. “The girls bowled well over what they did in sectionals and districts. Their score in the qualifying round was higher than both of those tournaments even though it was one-less Baker.

“With only two seniors leaving this season, I believe we have a great chance to make another run next year,” said Day.

The team members making it to state included senior co-captains Cassie Egli and Emma Day, juniors Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt, Anna Drago, Valeri Derteen and sophomores Olivia Davies,  Hallie Furry and Nina Gill.

On their way to the state’s final season tournament, they won five tourneys and won the Portage Trail Conference league championship

Day also thanked his seniors, Egli and Day, for four great years.
