Both the Rootstown and Garfield girls varsity bowling teams had no trouble advancing from the Division II sectional at Spins Bowl on Monday.

The pair of teams moves on to the Division II district that will be hosted by Rosalind Lanes, in Oakwood, on Feb. 22.

Rootstown earned the sectional championship, continuing their streak of tournament victories this season.

The Rovers finished with a 3,148 pin count for the three games and six Baker games, edging out Garfield by 36 pins in the hard-fought tourney.

The Rovers’ best was bowled by Olivia Davis, finishing in third place after bowling a 509 series.

“We didn’t bowl our best today, but did well enough to advance,” said the Rovers coach, Andy Day. “Looking at the other three sectionals, we had the third-highest score, so that’s good.

“A couple girls improved their scores on the shot, which is what we need,” Day added. “We need to get back to our game, which is bowling good in Bakers and filling frames. That’s where we have been struggling.”

Garfield sophomore Joy Justice led the G-Men, bowling a 500 series to help the team to the second-qualifying spot.
