Crestwood High School senior Jayden Julian is one of the many dual-sport student-athletes this fall.
Julian, who is a wide receiver and kicker for the Red Devils’ football team, also plays soccer and set a new school record this week for career scoring.
Julian scored the game-winning goal, with only seven seconds remaining, in a 2-1 victory over Geneva on Wednesday. He broke the career scoring record that was previously held by Jacob Drake and originally set in 2005. Julian now has 32 career goals.
Previously this season, Julian set the single-game goals record with 7 in a triumph over Grand Valley on Sept. 21.
In case you missed it, I featured the Garfield offense in a story earlier this week and the program’s success since shifting to the single-wing offense in 2017.
You can read the spotlight feature here.
In 2017, the G-Men rushed for 2,213 yards (246 per game) in nine games.
In 2018, it was 3,569 grads (357).
In 2019, it was 3,201 (291).
In 2020, it was 2,830 (283).
In 2021, it was 3,886 (299).
Through seven games this season, the G-Men have rushed for 2,365 (338).
I will be in Windham tonight at Ed Liddle Field to watch the Bombers host Fairport on Homecoming Night.
On Thursday, Windham head coach Jake Eye sent me a sneak peek of his completed field paint, which included the Portage Sports logo along the right hash line.
Very special, and I feel honored and humbled that Eye would go out of his way for the loving sign of support.
It will be a chilly night for football, but there is very little chance of rain.
For kickoff, expect the temperature to be around 50 degrees.
By the fourth quarter, the temperature will dip below 50, with a real feel of about 42 degrees.
Dress warm and enjoy one of the final weeks of the regular season!
