Conner Hunt continues to author a decorated high school track and field career.
The latest honor for the Garfield junior came on Dec. 16 when he was named to the annual United States Paralympics Track and Field High School All-American team.
Only 46 high school student-athletes in the nation were named to the team.
Hunt has received statewide notoriety for winning six OHSAA state championships. As a freshman and a sophomore, Hunt topped the state-final podiums in the seated 100, 400 and 800 meters.
Hunt then set record times at the 67th Hartford Nationals, which was hosted on July 12-18 in Hoover, Ala., and is described as the “largest and longest-standing national sport championship event for athletes with a physical, visual and/or intellectual disability.”
At the event, Hunt raced to spectacular times of 15.97 in the 100 and 56.89 in the 400.
“At this point, nothing Conner accomplishes is a surprise,” Garfield athletic director and track and field coach Jim Pfleger said. “We’ve been able to watch his dominance first-hand since he’s been in middle school. Whether it is state titles, state records or success on the national stage, nothing is a surprise.
“Conner earning All-American status is just anohat an elite-level athlete he is,” Pfleger added.
