Vincent Cannata qualified for the OHSAA’s Division I boys tennis district tournament.

Cannata worked his way through the individual bracket on Friday at Solon to finish third, among the top-four players advancing to the next level.

“He played great,” said his coach, and father, Vincent Cannata.

When the tourney started, Cannata was seeded second by the coaches and advanced easily through his bracket, often undefeated, until he played Theodore Vanjo of Mentor, who bested Cannata, 7-6, 0-3.

Cannata then moved into the sectional-final bracket to top Josh Kutsikovich of Mayfield  6-4, 6-4 to grab the third-qualifying spot.

Cannata will travel to Springdale Athletic Club for the Northeast District Tournament — set for Thursday action. He will find out his opponent on Sunday when the northeast sectionals are completed.

The top-six tennis players from the Northeast District advance to the OHSAA State tournament.
