It is hard to get to the state tournament once in Ohio, especially as an individual.
What is even more difficult is returning to the state tournament as an individual a second year.
But that is the success of Liam Curtis this season.
A senior playing for the Kent Roosevelt Rough Riders, Curtis tees off at NCR Country Club in Kettering on Monday, beginning on the first hole at 10:50 a.m.
Curtis left no doubt he should be at the state tournament again.
Playing in the Pine Hills Division I District tournament, one of the toughest courses in the lineup for the state sectionals and districts, Curtis fired a 3-under-par 68 to not only qualify, but earn medalist honors at the district.
Curtis has had an outstanding season, including earning First Team All-Suburban League and Player of the Year in the league’s American Conference following a series of four tournaments.
The Division I state tournament is 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday at the prestigious NCR Country Club.
The par-70 fairways measures out to 6,772 yards.
Kent Roosevelt coach, Ben Curtis, Liam’s dad, has the absolute privilege of coaching his son for the second time in the state tournament.
In 2023, Curtis earned a top-10 finish, in a tie for seventh place after carding rounds of 73-73 146 at the Ohio State University Scarlet Golf Course.
That earned Curtis All-Ohio status.
It should be an exciting tournament, with Curtis among the best golfers in the state.
