It was a clean sweep for the Rootstown Rovers as they won both the girls and the boys Portage Trail Conference Tournament championships on Saturday.

Both Rovers’ teams also earned both high games and four of the high-series medals on their way to earning the overall conference titles.

It was history repeating itself, as Rootstown has now won the last three straight PTC crowns.

For the girls, the Rovers’ Emma Day bowled the high game, a 234, and high series, 547 to help the Rovers top the field with a final score of 3,278.

Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt earned second-high series, a 473. Only Autumn Griffith of Lake Center Christian broke into the Rovers’ party, taking home third-high series, a 467.

As the girls successfully defended their title the boys were doing the same.

Rootstown’s Justin Miller tossed a nice 269 game on his way to the second-high series 637. Caleb Stevens bowled a 535 for the Rovers, good enough for third-high series.

Zeke Conley of Lake Center grabbed high-series honors, bowling a solid 662.

Rovers girls coach Andy Day and boys coach Thom Butcher have coached their bowlers to a successful season, winning several tournaments and posting records to be proud of with the talented bowlers on their teams.

The Rovers’ boys are 14-0 in match play and also undefeated in the PTC.

The Rovers’ girls were also undefeated in the PTC and finished match play and 12-2 overall.

It’s onto the postseason tournaments as both teams look to earn a berth at the OHSAA state tournament again this season.
