Rootstown’s Justin Miller advanced to the OHSAA’s Division II Boys Bowling State Championship and concluded his season in 26th place on Friday.

The Rovers’ junior earned the spot among the 101 bowlers that qualified to the tournament as both individuals and on teams.

Miller started his first game with eight strikes, bowling a 256 on his way to a 593 series.

“He handled himself with great composure,” said Thom Butcher, Rovers varsity boys coach. “Justin just didn’t get very good carry.”

It concluded an outstanding season for Miller, who earned the district individual championship and led the Rovers to their third consecutive Portage Trail Conference league title.

The Rovers aren’t done yet.

The Rootstown varsity girls team compete at the Division II Girls Bowling State Championship on Saturday at H.P. Lanes.
