Portage County teams are enjoying success advancing both individvuals and teams to state in this winter season to the state tournamets.
Bowling has joined the party as three varsity teams advanced to the OHSAA final championships, Rootstown girls and boys teams and Ravenna boys.
All advanced to the state championships at HP Lanes in Columbus as the Rover girls finished seventh in the state and the Rover boys earned ninth place.
One more team, the Ravenna boys, compete on Saturday for state honors.
Kelly Champ, coach of the Raven boys, knew the team could advance out of the districts.
In the step before the state, the team rose to the occasion for a 1,119 third game and then bowled outstanding Baker games.
The team is looking for the same success at the state on Saturday, looking to make it an entire team effort.
The qualifying round begins at 10:45 a.m. as the teams vie for the to eight spots that allows them to compete in the Championship round with awards distributed when the tournament concludes on Saturday for individual and team champions.
