The Field Falcons are sincerely on a roll in the bowling lanes of Northeast Ohio.
In only the second season for the Falcons hosting a varsity bowling team, and fresh off winning the Metro Athletic Conference postseason tournament, the Field boys won the OHSAA’s Division II Sectional hosted by Spins Lanes in Kent on Friday.
Winning first place, the Falcons were one of four teams to advance to the district tournament at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood on Feb. 21.
And who did the Falcons beat for the top spot?
The Rootstown Rovers were only 93 pins short of the championship behind the outstanding bowling of senior Nick Moorehead, who grabbed second-high series, bowling a 612 series including a high game of 256.
Rising to the top of the sectional, Field’s coach, Scott Bower, was obviously happy for his bowlers.
“Again, the boys pulled it together and were able to work as a team to win this,” said Baker. “It’s great to see such leadership qualiataies develop in the team and everyone is just enjoying themselves along the way.
“The hard work this season has paid off,” added Bower. “Nothing but joy to be this far along.”
Field’s 3,857 tournament total included a six-game Baker total of 1,226, highest in the tournament, including a 256 game to start the Baker series
Caleb Bristine, a senior, led the team with a 577 series and sophomore Peyton Hover tossed a 209 high game for the Falcons.
Thom Butcher, coach of the Rovers, was very proud of the boys on the team coming together the third regular game.
“The team shot a 1,028 that was 80 pins better than any other game shot among the 13 teams,” said Butcher.
Taking the second-of-four qualifying spots, the Rovers, led by Nick Moorehead, presented a balanced attack as five bowlers rolled 200 games: Justin Miller 201, Caleb Stevens 210, Moorehead’s 210-256, Sean Boveington 228 and Jonny Mays 210.
