On Saturday, the Ravenna High School boys bowling team competed in the OHSAA State Bowling Championships, becoming the third Portage County team to advance to the final OHSAA tournaments with the best in the state.
The Ravens came out strong at HP Lanes in Columbus, hovering among the top-eight qualifying spots in the first round — the spot needed to advance to the championship match play.
Ultimately, the Ravens finished in 13th place among the 16 teams, only 237 pins out of eighth place after three regular games and five Baker games, ending a season to remember for the team and their coach Kelly Champ.
The Ravens racked up a team total 3,776 pins, including a 220 high Baker game and a 987 regular game.
The Ravens high series was tossed by Peter Jennings, a junior, starting his three-game set with a 258 game and ending with a 615 series, good for 44th place. Jeriah Miller tossed games of 221 and 223 on his way to a 605 series.
The Division I state championships concluded the bowling season with Portage County making an impression. The Rootstown girls finished 7th in the state, Rover boys 9th in the state the Ravenna boys 13th.
A notable showing for both schools that call Spins Bowl in Kent their home.
