The tournament trail leading to the OHSAA state tournaments in bowling continues as the Division-I teams competed in the sectional, seeking to earn a spot in the Division I district tournament.

The Division I sectional for Portage County was held at Holiday Lanes in Struthers.

There were 17 teams in the tournament on the boys side, with the top-five teams and five individuals not on qualifying teams advancing to the Division I district.

The Ravenna Ravens were successful in their bid to advance to the district, finishing in second place behind the Boardman boys. Kent Roosevelt just missed qualifying as a team, landing in sixth place — just 70 pins shy moving forward.

Also competing in the boys sectional were the Streetsboro Rockets, earning 12th place.

The Riders’ junior, Braden Latacki, did earn an individual spot, in a tie for fifth individual and grabbing the second-qualifying spot with his 650 series.

Latacki joins Streetsboro senior, Connor Stevens, who also rolled his way into the top-five qualifiers, tossing a 644 series with a 245 high game.

The boys Division I district is set for Feb. 23 at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood.

At the girls Division I sectional, Kent Roosevelt finished 12th and Streetsboro seventh among the 14 teams looking to advance through the top four.

High series among local individuals was rolled by Streetsboro sophomore, Amy Rein, tossing a 454 — just 20 pins shy of advancing as an individual.

So the stage is set for the district tournaments as individuals and teams seek to advance to the state tournament at HP Lanes in Columbus.
