High School Bowling Report: Roosevelt boys, girls roll to success in December

The girls and boys bowling teams have enjoyed competition across the Suburban League throughout December.

The Riders’ girls are 2-4 in matches, with victories over Copley (1,292-1,287) and Barberton (1,491-1,061).

The boys, in their last six matches, boast a 4-2 record.

The most recent match against Copley saw one of those four victories, as the Riders won 2,420 to 2320.

Roosevelt was led by Brayden Darkow, who tossed an two outstanding games of 279-222 for a 501 series.

In the victory over North Royalton, Darkow was again one of the best bowlers on the lanes, tossing back-to-back games of 215 for a 430 series.

The Rough Riders’ Eli Logsdon also tallied two games equaling 430, including a high game of 225 and adding a 205.

Three two-game sets in the 400s equaled an outstanding match for the team as Braden Latacki added a 404 to the total rolling 204-200 in the 2,462 to 2,418 victory.

 

ROOTSTOWN ROVERS

The Rovers junior varsity teams took front and center at the Garfield JV Tournament at Sky Lanes in Garrettsville.

The Rovers swept both the boys and girls divisions.

For the girls, Valeri Dertern and Nina Gill won individual awards for second and third high series, respectively.

The boys’ victory included Jonny Mays (621 series) and Tyco Smolk (526 series) as the first- and second-place individuals.

The Rovers’ varsity boys competed in the Akron Spins Bowl Christmas Tournament and qualified second after two regular games and six Baker games heading into the stepladder finals.

The Rovers won their first matchup against the Hoban Knights, then lost to Fairport Harbor to finish third out of 15 teams at the event.

High games were rolled by Justin Miller 226, Anthony Cambareri 245, Nick Moorehead 176 and Sean Boveington 183. Also helping in the Rovers’ victory was Xavier Miller and Caleb Stevens.

 

TOURNAMENTS

The Rootstown Rovers Sectional Preview Tournaments are set for Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 with Division I teams bowling on Saturday and Division II teams bowling on Sunday.

The Division-I tournament is sold out but there are still a few lanes available for the Division II.

The Garfield G-Men host the G-Men Classic at Sky Lanes on Jan. 11 and 12 with boys teams bowling on Saturday and girls teams bowling on Sunday.
