High School Bowling Report: Rootstown remains undefeated to open season

During the week, the Rovers bested Howland 2,419 to 2,097 and then defeated Southington Chalker 2,532 to 1,967.

During both matches, Sean Boveington led the way for the Rovers, smashing the pins for a 248 high game and a 475 two-game set against Howland and upping his game against Southington to a high game of 256.

The Rovers were on fire against Southington as Nick Moorehead rolled a 235 game, 400 series and Justin Miller, a 224 game and 394 series.

The Rovers topped Southington with a Bakers series of 615 that included a high game of 228 to remain undefeated for the season.

Against Howland, Anthony Cambareri scattered the pins for a 207 game on a high shot as Rootstown continues to present a well-balanced team to opponents.

 

STREETSBORO ROCKETS

Matt Stump, coach of the Rockets, is excited about this year for his girls and boys bowling teams.

The girls moved to 5-2 for the season with a victory over the Field Falcons, 1,60 to 1,436.

The Rockets were led by Amy Rein, a sophomore, bowling games of 213-158 for a 371 series. Freshman Natalie Southerland rolled a 184 high gamme on her way to a 337 series and junior Kendall Clark tossed a 332 series with a high game of 190.

Natalie’s 184 was her personal high game.

The boys moved to 2-5 after defeating the Falcons in a close math, 2,337 to 2,306.

Connor Stevens tossed a high game of 224 and finished with a 422 seris. Freshman Grayson Gano’s 402 included a 235 high game and senior Jayden Singleton’s 367 tossed a 193 high game.

The Rockets rolled their high and second high Baker games of their season, a 205 and 204.

 

TOURNAMENTS

• The Rootstown Rovers Sectional Preview Tournaments are set for Jan. 18 and Jan. 19, with Division-I teams bowling on Saturday and Division-II teams bowling on Sunday.

The Division-I tournament is sold out, but there are still a few lanes available for the D-II.

• The Garfield G-Men host the G-Men Classic at Sky Lanes on Jan. 11 and 12, with boys teams bowling on Saturday and girls teams bowling on Sunday.
