The season is young for the high-school bowling teams competing across lanes in Northeast Ohio, but many are already showing they are in mid-season form and looking toward the postseason tournaments hosted by the OHSAA.
The Streetsboro Rockets are off to a hopeful start to the season with the help of senior Connor Stevens, who is a three-year letterwinner.
In the team’s recent league match against Springfield, the Rockets conquered the Spartans 2,324 to 1,548, giving the Rockets their first victory of the season against five losses.
The Rockets’ girls team are 4-2 after losing to Springfield 4-2.
During the match, the Streetsboro boys set a season-high single-game score of 926 during their second team game of the match.
High series for the girls was bowled by Kendall Clark 194-165 359.
Stevens rolled an outstanding high game of 243 on his way to a 423 series.
The Field Falcons are off to a fast start for the season, currently 4-0 after besting Norton at Kent Lanes.
Field won the match thanks to a team effort that included Peyton Hover’s 200-199 399 and Joey Dillworth’s 203-372.
The boys had a 193 high Baker game on their way too the Metro Athletic Conference victory.
The Rovers were not welcoming hosts when they competed against a solid Hoban team at Spins Lanes in Kent.
For the boys, it was an outstanding night that left coach Thom Butcher feeling very proud of his team.
The Rovers won the match 2,819 to 2,467, a solid score for both teams, but the Rovers were consistent across the board with a 195 their lowest game in the contest among the 10 games bowled by individuals.
Justin Miller rolled a 236-465 to lead the match, with Nick Moorehead adding a 251-454, Elijah Birch a 223-443 and Sean Boveington a 238-440.
Anthony Cambareri rolled a 208 and Caleb Stevens rolled that 195 as the Rovers prepared for the Baker games of the contest.
The three Baker games did not disappoint as Rootstown compiled a 614 series.
It was a match to remember for the Rovers’ boys early in the season.
The girls had their own victorious match against Hoban, beating the Knights 2,306 to 1,866 following their victory at the Kick-Off tourney the previous week.
Emma Day put together two games of 211-202 for a 413 series that easily led the match prior to the girls teaming up for a 557 Baker series with back-to-back 200 game.
