The third and final day of the Good Park Junior Golf Tournament in Akron saw shifting scoreboards and solid scores on the way to awarding the plaques to the champions.
Taylor Blazek, a senior for the Southeast Pirates, maintained her lead wire-to-wire from the qualifying round through the final two 18-holes to earn the championship.
Blazek fired an 84 on her final 18-holes to shoot 162 total and earn the championship by one stroke over Ellie Hutlzer of North Canton Hoover. Hutlzer was the defending champion from 2023.
Samantha Morgan, a freshman for the Pirates this fall, recovered nicely after her first round 90 in the Championship Division to fire an 81 on Friday and finish in eighth place.
Aubree Varga, also a member of the Pirates, won the First Flight of girls, shooting rounds of 88-91 for a 179, distancing herself from the field by four strokes.
Three more Southeast girls golfers landed in the first flight: Adriana Sloan (5th – 188), Jessica Mix (6th – 190) and Jennifer Mix (7th – 193).
Blazek also received an award for firing the low-qualifying round on Wednesday.
For the boys, James Morgan of Southeast, a junior, scored a nice 76 to add to his 72 first-day total, but he went up against Zach Butcher in the final round. Butcher, a Medina Highland golfer, fired a 68 on Friday to top Morgan by one stroke in the overall total 147-148.
Jackson Turner of Kent grabbed eighth place in the first flight, firing two-rounds of 83-79 for a total 162.
