The Garfield G-Men placed fourth overall — and third place in the very small school division — at the National Academic Quizbowl Tournament national championships last weekend.
In the traditional public school division, the G-Men’s fourth-place finish came out of 77 entire teams in the event hosted in Rosemont, Ill.
In 21 rounds of competition, Garfield won its first 16 rounds before finally losing in round 17. The G-Men rebounded for wins in rounds 18, 19 and 20 before losing in round 21 to Woodland (Beacon Falls, Ct.)
Captain Jack Rado led the team with an average of 134.57 points. It was the highest average of any player in the traditional public schools division, earning the senior the top spot on the Tournament All-Star Team.
