The Garfield G-Men authored what may turn out to be, arguably, the most dominant win of the 2022 high school football season in Portage County.
The final score of 34-0, at LaBrae, shows an impressive win, but even still hides just how dominant the victory was.
Defensively, the G-Men (3-1) held the Vikings to only 29 total yards in the game: 13 yards rushing and 16 yards passing. LaBrae had just two first downs in the entire game.
Offensively, Garfield’s patented running attack was on full display and totaled 382 yard son 45 attempts — an average of 8.5 yards per carry for the game.
“It was a great team effort,” Garfield head coach Mike Moser said. “We overcame a sluggish start and the defense was superb all night.”
On the ground, Jesse Grace had 152 yards on only nine carries, while Keegan Sell (8 attempts, 98 yards), Vinnie Grandizio (11-76) and Carter Bates (8-62) all also had big nights carrying the ball.
Deacon Sommer opened the scoring for Garfield with a 10-yard run in the first quarter. The lead was pushed to 14-0 on a 25-yard run by Sell before halftime.
In the third quarter, the G-Men continued to extend their lead with two more scores — both by Grace, who ran in from 11 and 33 yards, respectively.
The final Garfield touchdown came late in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard run by Grandizio.
Extra points were handled by Ethan Bittence.
The G-Men go on the road next Friday for a Week 5 matchup with Newton Falls, which lost to Champion on Friday, 29-24, and are 1-3 on the season.
