The Field Falcons left little in question on Friday night.
After “what if” moments clouded tough losses in Week 1 to Mogadore and Week 3 at Rootstown, the Falcons took care of business early and often inside Kenneth Lohr Stadium on their way to a convincing 49-0 Metro Athletic Conference triumph over the Springfield Spartans on youth cheer and youth football night for the Falcons.
The first quarter was a blur of scoring for Field (2-2), which quickly pushed out to a 28-0 lead.
Garit Greene and Braxton Baumberger opened up the scoring on an 18-yard pass from Baumberger to Greene.
Less than a minute later, Drexal McAmis fell on a fumble at his own 2-yard line, then finished it with a powerful run across the goal line on the next play.
Baumberger pushed the third touchdown onto the scoreboard with a 2—yard run, then Greene and Baumberger hooked up again, this time from 34 yards out.
Carter Hall booted all four of the extra points for the Falcons.
A quick start in the second quarter mirrored that of the first quarter for Field.
This time it was Baumberger finding receiver Makai People for a 15-yard touchdown through the air, lifting the Falcons’ lead to 35-0.
Green scored his third touchdown of the game in the third quarter, taking a jet-sweep handoff 9 yards to the end zone.
Field’s final touchdown came on a 6-yard, fourth-quarter run by Owen Wymer.
“Our kids played great tonight,” Field head coach Matt Furino said. “We played as a team and this was a great victory for us and a great way to start off league play.”
The loss dropped Springfield to 0-4 on the season.
Next up for Field, in Week 5, will be a home matchup with Cloverleaf. The Colts are 3-1 and have won three straight over Keystone (35-19), Black River (36-6) and Ravenna (42-17) after losing their season opener to Buckeye (29-28).
