The Field Diamond Boys 12U baseball team won its second tournament championship of the spring this weekend.
The team captured title in the Tallmadge Early Bird Tournament, championship-game triumph over the Boys of Summer 12U Blue team.
To get to the title game, the Diamond Boys defeated Norton 9-3 in the first pool-play game, collecting nine hits and committing zero errors.
In the second pool-play game, the Diamond Boys dominated Millcreek Riptide Blue with a 10-0 victory (13 hits and zero errors).
The two wins placed Field as the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
In bracket play, the Diamond Boys opened against Millcreek again and won again (10-0).
In the semifinals, Field trailed the Twinsburg Tigers 11U team 6-5, but tied the game 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning to force extra innings, then win in thrilling fashion with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
In the championship game, the Diamond Boys fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, then it was 3-0 in the second inning. Field found its offense with four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-3 lead, then boosted the lead to 6-3 in the sixth inning.
The Boys of Summer scored a run late, but Field held on for the 6-4 title win.
The Field Diamond Boys team includes Grayson Border, Chase Berthold, Evan Jackson, Dillon Benshoff, Mason Fulst, Adam Fanger, Christian Fisher, Tristan Zeman, Kamren Brastine and Ricky Baggott.
