The Aurora City School District Board of Education voted to approve boys and girls lacrosse as the newest sponsored varsity sport.
The lacrosse programs move from club-sport status to varsity sport for the spring 2025 season, spending just one season as a club sport.
The teams will be coached by Mike Roberto, Mark Adams and Megan Kozar. All will be approved at the Board of Education’s meeting in August, according to Aurora athletic director Paul Powers.
“We are excited to bring lacrosse on board as a sport in the Aurora City Schools,” Powers said. “It is our hope that this new sport will grow into what all our other sports offer our student-athletes on West Pioneer Trail. In addition, the culture this program builds will hopefully build the numbers of youth lacrosse players in our community and add to the success of our program at Aurora High School.”
Aurora now sponsors 12 boys varsity sports and 12 boys girls varsity sports.
